TRALA ELECTS NATIONALEASE PRESIDENT AS 2002-2003 CHAIRMAN

ALEXANDRIA, VA - April 15, 2002 - NationaLease President William J. Ford was unanimously chosen by the members of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association as its 2002-2003 Chairman at the association's 2002 National Leadership Conference and 24th Annual Meeting held April 3-7 in San Diego.

Ford, a TRALA member for 17 years, challenged the association to actively promote membership to the broader leasing industry, particularly finance lessors who benefit from the association's legislative efforts. In addition, Ford encouraged the members to strengthen the industry's image and work with TRALA's leadership as they create programs and services to help each company become more productive and profitable.

"I am embracing these goals and urge you to work along with me to make these things happen," Ford, of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., told members in his acceptance speech on April 6. "Together, we're going to make our industry an unbeatable force in the transportation world."


In addition to Ford, the TRALA Board of Directors elected the following members as officers:

  • Terry Young, president and CEO of Volvo and GMC Truck Leasing of Carolina in Charlotte, N.C., was elected as first vice chairman and chairman-elect.
  • Chris Culley, president of Ruan Transportation Management Systems in Des Moines, Iowa, was elected as second vice chairman.
  • Thomas D. Brown, president of Brown NationaLease in Des Moines, Iowa, was elected secretary.
  • Frank E. Walter, president of Palmer Leasing Group in Indianapolis, Ind., was elected treasurer.
  • Reed Murphy III, president of MHC Truck Leasing Inc. in Kansas City, Mo., was elected immediate past chairman.
  • The board elected to retain Peter J. Vroom of Alexandria, Va., as president and chief executive officer of the association.

Also at the annual meeting, the following members were elected to the association's Board of Directors:

  • Pete Martinelli, Managing Director of Local Markets of Budget Group in Lisle, Ill., was elected to fill a vacancy on the 2000-2003 board.
  • Allan Serfas, Corporate Rental Manager of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in St. Louis, Mo., was elected to fill a vacancy on the 2001-2004 board.
  • Paul DeCarolis, President of DeCarolis Truck Rental in Rochester, N.Y., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.
  • Brian Hard, President of Penske Truck Leasing in Reading, Penn., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.
  • Don Krom, Leasing Manager of Southeastern Leasing and Rental Company in Charlotte, N.C., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.
  • Tony Pope, President of CT Group in Claremont, N.C., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.
  • Steve Scully, President of Scully NationaLease in Fontana, Calif., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.
  • Todd Uhl, President of Uhl Truck Lease in Louisville, Ky., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.
  • Jack Zolomy, President of Interstate NationaLease in Albany, Ga., was elected to the 2002-2005 board.

The Truck Renting and Leasing Association, based in Alexandria, Va., is a voluntary, non-profit national trade association, organized in 1978 to provide a unified and focused voice for the truck renting and leasing industry. TRALA's membership includes more than 650 leasing and rental firms and 100 suppliers that make up nearly the entire full-service truck renting and leasing industry. The industry is responsible for approximately 40 percent of all new class 3 through 8 commercial truck registrations.
