TRALA CEO PETER J. VROOM SELECTED FOR
U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S COMMITTEE OF 100

ALEXANDRIA, VA - June 6, 2002 - TPeter J. Vroom, president and chief executive officer of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association, today accepted a nomination into the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Association Committee of 100.

Founded in 1958, the Association Committee of 100 represents the more than 800 member associations to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors. The Committee contributes by enhancing the Chamber's lobbying and coalition work by expanding its outreach to businesses and the association community.

Vroom became TRALA's president in 2001 and was named chief executive officer in 2002. He first joined TRALA in 1992 as Vice President of Government Relations after serving for five years as administrative assistant to Congressman J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), who is currently Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Being a member of the Committee of 100 is a distinct honor and will give me a stronger voice for the interests of truck renting and leasing as policy recommendations are made to the U.S. Chamber's Board of Directors," Vroom said. "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has targeted tort and tax reform, as well as transportation funding reauthorization for emphasis in the coming months and years. TRALA shares these interests and expects to stand shoulder to shoulder with the U.S. Chamber and its CEO, our good friend Tom Donohue, as we work towards common goals."

Between 1997 and 1999, Vroom was president of Legislative Solutions, an Alexandria-based government relations firm, where he represented transportation, technology and telecommunications clients on Capitol Hill. Vroom also served as a staff member of the House Government Operations Committee, as well as Director of Education and Training for the National Republican Congressional Committee. In addition, he served as campaign manager for Congressman Amo Houghton (R-N.Y) and legislative assistant for Congressman John P. Hiler (R-Ind.).
